India's Online Gaming Act — What It Means and What Changed in 2025
In 2025 the Indian government passed the Online Gaming Act which fundamentally changed the legal landscape for prediction platforms, fantasy sports, and gaming apps in India. The law classified real-money prediction and opinion trading platforms as gambling, immediately forcing every major platform to shut down or suspend operations.
Probo, India's dominant prediction platform with over 3 crore registered users, was among those forced offline. MPL Opinio, TradeX, and Better Opinions faced the same fate. The act imposed a 28% GST on the full face value of all real-money deposits on gaming platforms — a tax burden that made the economics of every existing model unviable.
For users, this meant losing access to platforms they had used daily to predict on cricket, Bollywood, and markets. For the industry, it meant an almost complete reset.
The one category of platform the act does not cover is virtual currency platforms — apps where no real money changes hands at any stage. Flobal was designed from day one to operate within this exemption. Our Flo Coins have zero monetary value and cannot be exchanged for real money. The same law that shut down our competitors is the reason Flobal is the right product for this moment.
